Triggers

While Desire and Social Distance is best enjoyed going in blind, it may contain some themes that some readers find distressing. Below is a complete list of triggers that occur in the book:

  • aphobia – FMC briefly mentions her loneliness and isolation and is bitter that she is alone during the pandemic
  • death of a pet – (off-page, minor character refers to)
  • cheating – not by or between MMC and / or FMC
  • deceased parents – briefly mentioned by both MMC and FMC
  • graphic violence – one instance recounted in a flashback by MMC; stabbing
  • graphic sex – throughout the book
  • mature language – profanity used throughout the book
  • alcoholism / addiction – briefly mentioned by MMC about a minor character who does not appear in the book
  • past trauma flashback – by MMC: ex-wife’s public infidelity; stabbing
  • workplace harassment – done by MMC to FMC
  • stalking – done by very minor character who does not appear on page to a minor character, neither done by or to MMC or FMC
